Nextel Cup Results 9/30 (Kansas)
What a wacky wet and wild race at the Kansas Speedway! The LifeLock 400 had crashes, red flags, lots of cautions, and was called on account of darkness. Greg Biffle took the checkered flag amid controversy, and at least two team owners have expressed that they will indeed be protesting the race end.
After more than an hour of waiting for the rain to stop and the track to dry, the race was shortened to first 225 laps, and then to 210 laps because of the rapidly approaching darkness. When Juan Pablo Montoya’s car started coming apart, a caution flag came out with 4 laps to go, and the NASCAR officials froze the field and declared Greg Biffle the winner. However, he did not come across the finish line on that final lap first, allegedly because he ran out of gas. As his car was being pushed to victory lane, second place Clint Bowyer and third place Jimmie Johnson immediately cried foul. Car owners Richard Childress and Rick Hendrick expressed to the media they would be looking to protest the outcome of the race.
Many drivers in the chase, such as Tony Stewart, Carl Edwards, and Martin Truex Jr., dropped in the standings due to getting caught up in wrecks. What do you think about the end of the race?
