Busch Series Championship Banquet Pictures

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

The Nextel Cup Series drivers got to tour New York City and light up the town for their Championship Banquet week a couple weeks ago. Last weekend, it was time for the drivers from the Busch Series to take center stage in Orlando, Florida. The top ten drivers were there to accept their awards, along with the Owner’s Championship team and drivers. While many of the faces are familiar, as they participated in the Nextel Cup ceremony as well, some of the Busch Series regulars managed to secure top ten spots in the drivers’ points to take the stage themselves. I’ve obtained some great pictures of the drivers from the banquet looking good all cleaned up. For more pictures, click after the jump.

Taking a “victory lap” around New York City during Champion Week.

The racing may be over for the season, but there is one last hurrah for all three major NASCAR series in the form of the end of the year Awards Banquets. This is the time when we get to honor the top drivers in the point standings, the Rookie of the Year, as well as to be entertained by comedians and musical acts.

The Nextel Cup banquet is the first one up and it actually is going to be held this Friday, November 30th live from New York City. The Busch Series banquet is December 12th in Orlando, Florida, and the Craftsman Truck drivers were honored on Monday November 19th, but you can still catch the airing of the ceremony on SPEED in December.

Busch Series Race Results 11/17 (Homestead Miami)

Sunday, November 18th, 2007

buschlogo.jpgIt was a bittersweet day for the Busch Series yesterday in Homestead Miami. After 26 years of being the title sponsor, Anheuser Busch is finished with that partnership. Nationwide Insurance takes over as title sponsor of the now Nationwide Series starting in Daytona in 2008.

Jeff Burton was able to avoid all the accidents and hang on at the end to win the race at Homestead Miami, clinching the Owner’s championship for Richard Childress, his second Owner’s Championship in a row (he won with Kevin Harvick last year). Busch Series Champion Carl Edwards finished fourth.

Weekend Race Preview (Homestead Miami)

Thursday, November 15th, 2007

homestead.jpg

Well, NASCAR fans, this is a very bittersweet post for me to make. It is the last race weekend of the 2007 season and I’m staring into a long, cold winter without races to watch. It makes me sad, but Homestead Miami is always an exciting race and with the Nextel Cup and Craftsman Truck Series still up for grabs, this year will be no different. I’m excited to see who will come out on top, but will be sad to see this exciting and controversial season come to an end.

So, if you would like to see the race preview for the final races of 2007, keep reading after the jump.

5busch.jpgKyle Busch sure is having a good weekend at Phoenix International Raceway. Not only did he win the Craftsman Truck race on Friday night, but he also took the checkered flag during the Busch race for his second win of the weekend on Saturday. Matt Kenseth also ran well and was able to finish in second place.

Weekend Race Preview 11/9 (Phoenix)

Thursday, November 8th, 2007

phoenix.jpg

The Nextel Cup, Busch Series, and Craftsman Trucks all travel to the desert to race this weekend in Phoenix. With only two races left in the entire season, it’s getting down to the wire and the drivers are feeling the pressure. Luckily, Carl Edwards can relax in the Busch Series since he clinched the title last weekend in Texas. The Nextel Cup and Craftsman Truck point standings are still close enough to keep fans on the edge of their seats.

To see what you should watch for this weekend, keep reading after the jump.

NASCAR Point Standings as of 11/4/07

Wednesday, November 7th, 2007

points.jpg

Jimmie Johnson has taken over the lead in the Nextel Cup Point standings over his teammate Jeff Gordon. With only a few races left, the race heats up to see if Jimmie can take home the trophy again this season to make it back to back championships for the #48 team. The Busch Series championship has been decided with Carl Edwards clinching the title this past weekend in the Texas race. However, the Craftsman Truck points are still close with Mike Skinner and Ron Hornaday continuing to battle it out.

Busch Series Race Results 11/3 (Texas)

Tuesday, November 6th, 2007

edwards1.jpgWell, the championship has finally been decided in the Busch Series. Carl Edwards, who ended up finishing 11th at the Texas race this past weekend, was able to cement his championship after coming up short the past few weeks. It is now statistically impossible for anyone to catch him in the point standings even if he didn’t race for the rest of the season. Congratulations to Carl for a dominating season!

The Texas race was relatively calm with only 4 caution flags. Kevin Harvick took the checkers ahead of Kyle Busch and Denny Hamlin. To see where the entire field finished, keep reading after the jump.

Yee Haw, NASCAR fans! This week is a big one for all three NASCAR series, so what a better place to hold the races besides the place where everything is bigger? NASCAR invades Texas this week and you should expect plenty of action with the championship races heating up. Will Hendrick Motorsports continue its domination, or will someone else take the checkered flag first this week? Find out what to expect for the Nextel Cup, Busch, and Craftsman Truck races this weekend after the jump.

NASCAR Point Standings as of 10/28/07

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

points.jpg

All three of NASCAR’s major series were in action this week and things are really starting to heat up in the point standings! Jeff Gordon was able to hang on to his lead in the Nextel Cup standings, but his Hendrick Motorsports teammate Jimmie Johnson closed the gap and is now within a measly nine points of the top spot after his win in Atlanta this weekend. The Craftsman Trucks are also in a tight race for the top with Mike Skinner and Ron Hornaday see-sawing every week. While the Busch Series isn’t nearly as close, Carl Edwards has been struggling lately and hasn’t been able to clinch the title as of yet.

To see where the top 50 drivers stand in all three of the series, keep reading after the jump.

Busch Series Race Results 10/27 (Memphis)

Sunday, October 28th, 2007

99BuschCar.jpgCarl Edwards was once again unable to clinch the championship this week with his lackluster 25th place finish. It was a great day for David Reutimann and his Toyota team, however, as he captured his first career win in the Busch Series. Dario Franchitti’s Busch Series debut also ended up less than stellar with the open wheel driver landing in 32nd place in the caution filled race.

It is coming down to the wire for all three of NASCAR’s series with only a few races left before the end of the season and the crowning of the champions. It’s a busy weekend in motorsports with Nextel Cup and Craftsman Truck races in Atlanta and the Busch Series cars take to the track in Memphis. Busch Race Results 10/12 (Charlotte)

Saturday, October 13th, 2007

burtonbusch.jpgJeff Burton found his way to victory lane after leading 61 laps in the Dollar General 300 at Lowe’s Motorspeedway in Charlotte, NC. This was Burton’s 4th win in the Busch Series this season, as he managed to survive through 10 cautions and 11 lead changes among 5 different drivers.

Current points leader Carl Edwards had the chance to solidify his championship this race, but failed to do so finishing 33rd after getting caught up in a wreck on lap 133. However, in his exit interview he seemed to be in good spirits and he was able to get in a few “get well” shout outs to people such as his aunt and his good buddy John Cena.

Weekend Race Preview 10/13 (Charlotte)

Thursday, October 11th, 2007

48car.jpgTwo of the three of the top NASCAR series are in action this weekend, as the Chase for the Championship heats up and the Busch Series drivers try to chip away at Carl Edwards’ lead. The Nextel Cup and Busch Series cars will make their way around Lowe’s Motorspeedway in Charlotte, NC, while the Craftsman Trucks take the weekend off and get ready to race at Martinsville next weekend. Here is what to expect in this weekend’s races.

Nextel Cup Bank of America 500
Airs Saturday October 13th at 7:00 PM ET on ABC

It’s time for another night race at Lowe’s Motorspeedway in Charlotte, which is arguably the unofficial capital of the NASCAR racing world. For quite some time, Lowe’s Motorspeedway seemed to be the house that Jimmie Johnson built with his string of consecutive wins at the track. It was almost as if the Lowe’s car dominating at Lowe’s Motorspeedway was meant to be. Although he hasn’t won there in the last couple of races, Hendrick cars always run strong in Charlotte. In fact, it was Casey Mears in victory lane at the Coca Cola 600 earlier this season, taking his first Nextel Cup win. Kasey Kahne always runs well here, too.

Busch Series Dollar General 300
Airs Friday October 12th at 7:30 PM ET on ESPN2.

Just as in the Nextel Cup series, Kasey Kahne also runs well in Charlotte when he drives the Evernham Busch car. He is slated to run the race this weekend as well, so be on the lookout for the #9 car to be near the front. However, with the great season he’s had so far, past track winner and current points leader Carl Edwards is always one to watch in the Busch Series. We may be seeing a backflip this weekend after the Dollar General 300.
