Busch Race Results 9/29 (Kansas)

Sunday, September 30th, 2007

Thanks to Lessa for the great new banner!
,

kylelowes.jpgAfter a record tying 10 yellow flags, Kyle Busch managed to squeak out a win over Matt Kenseth at the wire by less than .09 seconds. Points leader Carl Edwards ran into some trouble and was involved in a wreck leaving him in 38th place for the week. Of course, he still holds a 700+ point lead in the standings, so not too much damage was done besides the car. Check out the unofficial results from the Kansas Busch race after the jump.

Weekend Race Preview (Kansas)

Friday, September 28th, 2007

The Nextel Cup and Busch Series cars will run on the 1.5 mile tri-oval at Kansas Speedway. What should we expect to see in both races this weekend? You never know as the Chase heats up in the Nextel Cup series and Carl Edwards gets one step closer to clinching the Busch Series championship.

stewart.jpgNextel Cup LifeLock 400
Airs Sunday at 1:00 pm ET on ABC.

Smoke rose to the top last year at Kansas, can he do it again? Currently sitting in second place in the standings only 2 points behind Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart surely hopes for the repeat. Jimmie Johnson usually runs well at these types of tracks, and the Rousch Fenway cars seem to be hitting their stride at just the right time, so Carl Edwards, who is coming off a penalty after winning at Dover, and Matt Kenseth will be looking to take the checkered flag. Also, keep an eye on Denny Hamlin this weekend. This is the test to see if he can shake off his new feud with Kyle Petty long enough to get back on track in the Chase.

Busch Series Yellow Transportation 300
Airs Saturday at 3:00 pm ET on ESPN2

It’s pretty much a done deal that Carl Edwards will be winning the Busch Series championship this year, but the individual race wins are still anybody’s to take. Kevin Harvick won the race at Kansas last year on his way to winning the championship. However, Kevin has his work cut out for him, as no one has ever repeated as winner at Kansas in the Busch Series. Tony Stewart is running the Busch race this week, too, so he will be worth watching as well.

Kevin Harvick and Tony Raines Visit Boys and Girls Club

    Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

    20070920ge1572.jpg

“With more than 4,000 locations all over the country, the Boys and Girls Clubs of America have been a great organization for kids,” Harvick said. “It is an honor to be teamed up with RoadLoans to present the Boys and Girls Club of Delaware with a check for $7,505.”

Last weekend, NASCAR drivers Kevin Harvick and Tony Raines visited the Boys and Girls Club of greater Newark in Delaware to deliver a $7505 check for the worthy organization courtesy of RoadLoans.com. The money was raised in an online auction for an Ultimate Fan Experience package for the past weekend in Dover, which included premium seats for both the Busch Series and Nextel Cup races. Other items included autographed uniforms from Kevin Harvick, pit passes, and Victory Lane access after the Busch race.

Not only did the drivers present the check to the organization, they also interacted with hundreds of kids signing autographs and taking pictures, as well as a “Q&A” session. Part of the NASCAR Foundation, the Boys and Girls Clubs of America have benefited across the country from NASCAR and its drivers raising money and making appearances. It’s always good to see the stars giving back to those in need.

    Dover Wrap Up

    Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

This is just a quick post to update a few things that happened this past weekend in Dover so we can move on to Kansas:

Carl Edwards and Crew Chief Fined

carlrousch.jpgAs expected, Carl Edwards and his crew chief were both fined after failing post-race inspection after “The King of Concrete” Carl won the Nextel Cup race at Dover. He was fined 25 driver points, dropping him to 6th in the point standings (but still only 28 points behind leader Jeff Gordon) and his crew chief Bob Osbourne was fined $25,000 and put on probation until December 31st. Rousch Fenway Racing was also fined 25 owner points for the right rear of the car being too low. The organization will appeal the penalty with the argument that a 25 point penalty is too harsh during the Chase for an infraction that actually impairs the performance of the car.

Michael Waltrip’s Gas Man is OK

mwr.jpgDuring a pit stop in the Nextel Cup race on Sunday, a tire from the #44 car hit the #55 gas man and sent him to the hospital. The tire, being changed by Dale Jarrett’s crew during the fourth caution, rolled away from the pit and was hit by David Ragan in the #6 car. It flew across pit road and knocked out gas man Art Harris. Harris was awake and alert at the track, but transported to a nearby hospital immediately. He was released quickly and was able to fly home with the rest of the team. His status for the Kansas race is still unknown at this time.

    Kyle Petty vs. Denny Hamlin

denny.jpgAnd we thought the biggest mess of this matchup was on the track! After Denny Hamlin and Kyle Petty got together on the track during lap 204 of the Nextel Cup race in Dover, the war of words began. Kyle went to visit Denny at his car in the garage as he was sitting in it waiting for it to be repaired. At that point, Kyle slapped Denny across the helmet, which prompted Denny to take off his gloves and climb out of the car. No other physical confrontations occurred, but there are plenty of quotes and big talk from the incident. No penalties were assessed by NASCAR on either party.

Play Poker Online with NASCAR Drivers

    Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

elliott.jpgWhile watching “Trackside” this weekend on the Speed Channel, I happened to hear Elliott Sadler and Dale Earnhardt Jr. talking about a new venture they were participating in. Apparently, Elliott had the brilliant idea to start up an online poker site where fans could play poker against some of their favorite drivers. Thus, the Victory Lane Player’s Club (VLP Club) was born. In addition to Sadler and Earnhardt, you could play a hand with Kasey Kahne, Dale Jarrett, Tony Stewart, or Jamie McMurray.

I quickly perused the site to see what is offered for the small monthly fee ($20 for a full pass) in comparison to the “rookie” membership which is free. Each full pass member receives a special prize pack which includes a hat, t-shirt, and a hero card. Full members are also the ones who are eligible to qualify to play a driver in a special tournament. Both paid and free memberships come with the opportunity to win special prizes including autographed items and VIP access at various races. After signing up, players are required to download a special program to make the online games work.

Poker TV is partnering with the drivers to broadcast special driver tournaments, including online tournaments played with fans. Even fans who have lost in the online tournament are able to watch the conclusion of the game on Poker TV. Do you think you can call the drivers’ bluffs? Head on over to VLPclub.net to find out more and sign up today.

    NASCAR Standings as of 9/24/07

    Monday, September 24th, 2007

    points.jpg

The Chase for the Championship heats up as the current top 4 drivers are all within 4 points of the leader, Jeff Gordon. Carl
Edwards jumps into third after his victory at Dover, just three points behind Gordon, but a points penalty may be assessed tomorrow for not passing post race inspection.

Speaking of Carl Edwards, he is still running away with the Busch Series. It’s not even much fun anymore knowing that no one will make up that almost 800 point gap before the end of the season.

The Craftsman Truck series, however, is much more exciting with Mike Skinner now leading Ron Hornaday by only 3 points. This battle is far from over and should be fun to watch play out and see who ultimately comes out on top.

To see the standings of the top 50 drivers in all three series, keep reading after the jump.

    Nextel Cup Results 9/23 (Dover)

    Sunday, September 23rd, 2007

carlflip.jpgAnd the big one hit with just 13 laps to go when Kurt Busch broke a wheel. 12 cars were taken out of the race, including Chase contenders Kurt Busch, Martin Truex Jr., and Jimmie Johnson. Denny Hamlin also had a rough night after getting together with Kyle Petty early in the race. Carl Edwards, whom NASCAR.com has dubbed the “King of Concrete”, won the race, but his car did not pass post-race inspection. Apparently his right rear was too low, which Edwards and car owner Jack Rousch are confident the officials will find is due to a bent frame rather than any wrongdoing from the crew. Any fines or penalties will be announced on Tuesday. Here is how the entire field finished:

    Sunday, September 23rd, 2007

kvapil.jpgTravis Kvapil collects his 9th career Craftsman Truck win in Las Vegas last night. He started in first place and ended there. In between, there were a total of 8 cautions for crashes and spins. Ron Hornaday also ran into trouble late in the race and gave up the points lead to Mike Skinner. It’s still unbelievably close, though, with only 3 points separating the first and second place drivers. This is shaping up to be an amazing championship race. Busch Race Results 9/22 (Dover)

    Sunday, September 23rd, 2007

dennycrew.jpgThere was plenty of action in the RoadLoans.com 200 at Dover yesterday. Tony Raines threw his helmet at Robby Gordon’s car after wrecking and then decided to rant about it on camera. I would be surprised if there aren’t any fines for that incident. Anyway, Denny Hamlin, who is suffering from a serious illness and took an IV before the race, won by passing Martin Truex, Jr. near the end. Here are the results for the entire field:

biffbusch.jpgGreg Biffle won the pole for the RoadLoans.com 200 Busch Series Race in Dover this afternoon. Points leader Carl Edwards will join him on the front row, hoping to prove he’s still the King of Concrete. A lot of talk has been going on in the garage and the Speed Channel about young phenom Landon Cassill who will be starting 16th in the Hendrick Motorsports #5 Chevy. Since he’s my “hometown” boy (he’s from Cedar Rapids, IA), I’ll be watching to see how he does. Here is the starting grid for this afternoon’s race:

Weekend Race Preview (Dover & Las Vegas)

    Thursday, September 20th, 2007

The Nextel Cup (Dodge Dealers 400) and Busch Series (RoadLoans.com 200) drivers try to tame the Monster Mile in Dover, DE this weekend while the Craftsman Truck Series head to Las Vegas (Smith’s Las Vegas 300). Here is a little history about these races and an outlook of what’s to come this weekend.

    truex.jpgNextel Cup Dodge Dealers 400
Airs Sunday, September 23rd at 1 pm ET on ABC

Martin Truex, Jr. won at Dover back in June of this year. Can he repeat this victory and gain some ground on the leaders in the Chase for the Championship? Other recent winners include Jeff Burton, Matt Kenseth, and you can never count out Carl Edwards who NASCAR.com has dubbed “King of Concrete”.

    Busch Series RoadLoans.com 200
Airs Saturday, September 22nd at 3:00 pm ET on ESPN 2

edwardsdover.jpgCarl Edwards is running away with the Busch Series championship, and if history is any indication, he will probably run away with the win in Dover this weekend as well. However, let’s not count out Kevin Harvick or Clint Bowyer who won the September Busch race last year at this track. He’s also coming off his first Nextel Cup win, so momentum is with him.

Craftsman Truck Smith’s Las Vegas 300
Airs Saturday, September 22nd at 8:30 pm ET on Speed Channel

skinner.jpgMike Skinner is always strong at Las Vegas and was the winner of this race last year. He also has the last 3 poles to his credit at this racetrack. One thing to watch is the Craftsman Truck debut of open wheel driver Jacque Villeneuve. There is still a close race for the championship, so it’s going to be intense.

What do you think? Who is going to win the races this week? Leave your comments below.
